I believe that art serves multiple purposes and often can help us make meaning from the challenges we face in life. I will invite you to participate in expressing yourself in new ways and join you in exploring visual themes. The function of art therapy is complex; it serves as a means of accessing inner turmoil in a way that words may not.
We all develop with particular images that are as ingrained yet unique as the very language we use to communicate..
A few examples of how I might utilize art therapy in session include: a dual-handed scribble drawing (simple bi-lateral warm up for the brain), image cards (projective), figure-making via 3D objects and a
"me" box (purpose of which might range from a place for distress tolerance "tools" to a collection of keepsakes/mementos).
There are countless other way to explore oneself via art materials ranging from pencil to fabric to paint to collage. I will gauge what might work for you, monitor it closely and always provide options.
On a personal note.. I am an avid
reader, dispersed camper and
thrive on bringing creativity into all aspects of life.
You may be interested to learn that I am also a recognized Child Mental Health Specialist (CMHS) for the work I have done throughout King County.
